Taupo and back to Napier

The holiday parks here are different to South Africa.   They cater quite a lot to motorhomes and campervans.   Most of the sites are flat so we haven't had to level our van once yet.   I haven't seen anybody put up an awning.   There are no braai areas and charcoal costs about 17$ per bag (multiply by 7.5 to get Rands).   However, they mostly provide free gas barbeque facilities so most nights we have managed to have something approaching a braai.   We are in the minority though.   I haven't seen a bath yet in one of the bathroom areas.

It gets dark after 8pm which kind of means we get to bed later than normal.   Friday morning we didn't set an alarm and Brian was in the shower when I realised that I had two grabone vouchers for bacon and egg breakfast and if we wanted to do a boat tour of the Lake Taupo which started at 10.30, we might not have time to redeem them.   However we set out to do both, leaving about 5 mins after the decision.
Breakfast was yummy but hurried and the sparrows were just waiting for us to vacate our table.

We got to the steam boat, Ernest Kemp, just in time.

It was a 2 hour cruise, the main purpose to see the Maori carvings on a flat rock face, inacessible except by boat.

Lovely restful cruise including lovely scenery.

Then it was time to make our way to Napier again, passing more great scenery.
Back in Napier, things are gearing up for Christmas.   Gayle has made us all  stunning quilted Christmas stockings.
Last night we went to Christmas in the Park around the corner.   We had pizzas and added vitamins (tomatoes, carrots and strawberries.)   Although it started disapointingly with some bands, it ended up very nicely with Christmas Carols and even a Christmas talk by Dave's pastor.

Today we got take to Ta Mata Hill from where we could see the whole surrounding area, including some mountains very far away covered in snow.

Tomorrow we are on the road again.
