We left at 9.30 and made our way towards Woodville on the SH50. We made a detour to see the wind farm up close
You can see how big they are by the scale of the road in the foreground. I wish I could have taken some science expo kids. Talk about alternate energy. Each turbine can supply power for 900 average households. There are 55 altogether.
Then we stopped by the Steam engine museum. My Dad would have loved it.
We hit a bit of a hiccup between Levin and Otaki. For no apparent reason cars slowed down to about 5km per hour on our side. Opposing traffic seemed to be going on as normal. We passed no blockage, no narrowing of a road, no accident, no police check. We just crawled along at snails pace for an hour and a half. Then we hit the town and stopped at a robot (traffic light in New Zealand) and by the time we got through the town and out the other side, the blockage had dispersed and we could travel on as normal. It was the weirdest thing!
Got to Wellington about 6.30 and we first went to explore the Ferry terminal so we know where to go tomorrow before signing into the hotel I had booked through a Grabone voucher. I am very glad we did because it is extremely windy here. I hope the ferry can sail tomorrow. We have a lovely view of the sea out the window as well as the city and we are not more than 10 minutes from the ferry.
