Road Trip. Out and about.

On Saturday Stephen took us out to see sights we hadn’t seen yet on our holiday. First we went to Cape Point. It is a nature reserve so we got in free on our wild card. Then of course there was fauna and flora all around.IMG_0101

We joined all the other tourists on the climb up towards the light house - the higher we got, the more spectacular the view.

At the top was a path to go towards the actual end of the land. After the Lusitania was wrecked on Bellows Rock, the government decided to close down the original lighthouse on Cape Point Peak, and replace it with a second lighthouse further down the point in 1919.

I also enjoyed seeing the different rock formations. This one looks like a rock dinosaur climbing up the cliff.

After Cape Point we went to the Cape of Good Hope about two kilometers away. Brian and Stephen got to wet their feet in the sea.

After leaving the reserve we went to Camel Rock for lunch. Very interesting place, decorated with two beautifully 20180212_162231[1]painted surf boards. Apparently they have live music in the evenings and the system was being set up for Sonic Citizen which was on the programme for that evening.

Outside were a number of very interesting sculptures made of beads, wire, tin cans and other materials.

On the way home we stopped at Kommetjie beach small Kommetjie 2

and then popped in to an art studio to meet a friend of Stephen’s who is an artist.

Marc Alexander explained some of his techniques to us and demonstrated on a lovely painting of pandas on silver leaf background.

We had a wonderful day and made many memories.
