Road Trip. Table View

The weather forecast for Simon’s Town for Sunday said there would be strong winds, up to 40km per hour. We had arranged to join Stephen at his and Sue’s church in Fish Hoek, St Peter’s which is a REACH-SA church. (Reformed Evangelical Anglican Church of South Africa). It felt very comfortable to us because it had a similar atmosphere to our home church, Rosebank Union. In fact, Brian recognised a couple from our church who have a flat in Fish Hoek and visit it frequently. One of the music team is the sister of somebody else from our church. Small world.

We had organised to pick up Brian’s stepmother, Adie and take her for lunch. She has moved from Bloemfontein, where she was in frail care, to stay with her daughter. They live in Table View and we had given ourselves plenty of time to get there. Chapman’s Peak Drive was closed so we had to go another way. We got there with about an hour to spare so I googled a beach nearby so I could take iconic photos of table mountain. It was at the Dolphin Hotel where we had gone a very very long time ago on a very special deal.

Google Maps called it “Kite Beach” and we soon saw why. Although there was a good wind for kite surfing, it didn’t seem as strong as predicted.

The Dolphin Hotel has a lovely restaurant called the Blowfish and it seemed the ideal place to take Adie. We had a lovely meal together and she couldn’t stop commenting on the lovely crispy fish. It was good to see her looking so well.

It took us well over an hour to get home. We tried Chapman’s Peak Drive again from the other direction but it was still closed because of a rock fall.

We stopped at Glencairn beach to take photos of another kite surfer but the wind was so strong it was very unpleasant. It appeared the closer we got to Simon’s Town, the stronger the wind became. When we got to the caravan park, we saw to our dismay that our gazebo had collapsed -  all four legs had bent as a result of the wind.
